First post on new blog

Greetings all,
I've decided to move away from myspace and blog here instead. I thought it was time to get a real blog instead of using a generic form from an online networking site.
So I'm one week into my second block of second year. First block went well, passed all my tests so I'm really happy about that. We're starting real microbiology so I'm happy that we've moved away from immunology. Pharmacology is going to suck because the CNS drugs are complicated and the 140 page "review" the teacher sent out for self study is very dense. Luckily I can just chug through it for the next 5 weeks andI know I'll get through it by the test. I've really enjoyed the much more laid back scheduling of this year. Not every minute is planned for us, and we're not as micro-managed into mandatory lab sessions or 8-5 class blocks. Plus, the information doesn't seem as bad. I don't know if it's because the material itself is more visibly relevant to being a doctor, there is less material, or if I'm just used to drinking out of the fire hose so it doesn't seem as bad. Maybe it's a combination of all three. Who knows.
Went out last night to celebrate my friend J's birthday. It was a lot of fun. We went to the local irish-inspired pub and just sat around and chatted all night. It started raining, so we all stayed until closing. We sat outside for half of the night, where we all proceeded to be eaten alive by mosquitoes. There was also a group of some Teacher Corp teachers that all taught at one of the local high schools. They all looked about 12 years old and 70 lbs...so it was weird when they started hitting on several female members of our group. So that occupied the two teachers in our group while us nerds were left to talking about cadavers and other nerdy things most people don't understand. Or want to hear.
My ex roomate came, and unfortunately L and E and C all abandoned me at one point so I was left to her relentless babbling for a part of the night. I swear if there had been a pillow nearby I would have held it over her head while no one was looking until the thrashing stopped. Not really, but by that point in the night I was too tired to get up and just walk off in the middle of one of her pointless stories about herself. I was DD for several of my friends, so I ended up walking to the car in the rain in order to be nice and pick up my friends by the bar. Unfortunately, sometimes drunk people need to be put on leashes, and by the time I got to the car the people I was driving had all followed me in the rain to my car. Silly people. But I had fun. It was nice to get out. My friend W from college will be in town, so I think I'll be seeing him next weekend as well. I'm pretty excited. We always got along well, even if he had dated my ex roomate for a while. I can look past that small lapse in judgement and chill and catch up with him for a bit.
Needless to say, We got in really late last night and I've been napping off and on all day. I heard from my friend M which is always nice. I really enjoy talking to him. I have such fond memories of him when I was younger. I really do miss him. I wish he lived here, but I'm sure he's much happier where he is now. I haven't gotten a whole lot done today, not as much as I should have. I did read the lab manual assignment, and I'll be finishing up a few micro lectures by the time I go to bed. I'll just have to buckle down tomorrow and really hit it.
Keep it real.
K.
